Once Upon A Time In Wellfleet

I was walking along a path and saw a bird. An eagret, if memory serves me correctly. I'm not very good with birds. I just listen in on conversations between birdwatchers, although I suspect they're wrong most of the time. Nature is so full of intricacies...

It happened so quickly. I saw the eagret and then I saw this couple. They were also watching the eagret. That's how it started.

"White heron?"

"I think it's a white eagret."

"Honest to god I thought it was a crane!"

A couple of days later, my fiancée and I were having dinner at the couple's house. That's what I call American hospitality. We talked the night away and then got back to our "quarters" at Nickerson State Park.

Since then, we have been keeping in touch and plan to meet again soon. Will it be in Wellfleet or in Verdun? Who knows?

All I know is that once in a while, you run into people you don't forget. I'm still not quite sure about the bird's name. After all, I didn't get such a good look at it. It was pretty far away.

But I do remember the names of my fellow birdwatchers very well. And to my amazement, even though it's a bit fuzzy, I think I also remember their dog's name!

Wishing my Wellfleet buddies a joyous holiday season and sunsets such as the ones we were lucky enough to witness in the summer of 2018. Cheers!
